The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA)
The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) provides for trade between the United States, Mexico and Canada at duty free or preferred rates of duty. While NAFTA offers opportunities to reduce duties on shipments to customers in Canada and Mexico, the program eligibility rules are quite complex. Careful analysis is required to obtain maximum duty benefits and insure proper compliance with the NAFTA origin rules.

The firm has extensive experience in developing compliance programs with respect to Certificates of Origin, eligibility requirements, recordkeeping, etc. Our legal staff works closely with colleagues in Mexico and Canada to provide a full range of services to importers and exporters in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. We have handled numerous audits and inquiries by the U.S. Customs Service and foreign Customs officials relating to the NAFTA program.
